Sexual Dimorphism in Modern Javanese Crania: A Metric Approach

چکیده
Establishing the biological profile of an unknown skeleton is one forensic anthropologist main tasks; sex them. In sexing skulls, specific standard assessment designed for each population can improve accuracy rate due to its population-specific traits. This study aims describe sexual dimorphism in contemporary Javanese crania while employing metric methods. The measurements 50 male and 37 female were traditionally collected from nine craniometric points (i.e., g-op, eu-eu, ft-ft, zy-zy, n-pr, n-ns, apt-apt, go-go, n-gn) using calipers. found that out measuring points, two (ft-ft, apt-apt) variables does not differ significantly between samples. indicates that, accordance with previous studies, ft-ft apt-apt are good predictors sex. Future studies observing non-metric on would serve as a meaningful aid improving reliability when crania.

Growth and sexual dimorphism in orangutan crania: a three-dimensional approach.
New insights may be gleaned by taking an ontogenetic approach to investigations of adult dimorphism. Previous work in this area relied on traditional, caliper-based, morphometric methods, and produced conflicting results. This study uses a three-dimensional (3-D) approach for both local and global form comparisons of sex-specific growth and growth patterns. 3-D coordinate data were collected fo...
متن کاملMetric Sexual Dimorphism in Permanent Canines
The degree of sexual dimorphism of permanent human canines in cervical buccolingual and mesiodistal diameters was investigated through discriminant analyses. Measurements were recorded in 254 canines from 85 individuals in four populations and sex was estimated with multifactorial morphological methods. Age was similar assessed in order to rule it out as a factor. Tooth and body size were contr...
متن کاملSexual dimorphism in human browridge volume measured from 3D models of dry crania: a new digital morphometrics approach.
Sex estimation from the human skull is often a necessary step when constructing a biological profile from unidentified human remains. Traditional methods for determining the sex of a skull require observers to rank the expression of sexually dimorphic skeletal traits by subjectively assessing their qualitative differences. One of these traits is the prominence of the glabellar region above the ...
متن کاملStudy of sexual dimorphism of Malaysian crania: an important step in identification of the skeletal remains
Sex determination is one of the main steps in the identification of human skeletal remains. It constitutes an initial step in personal identification from the skeletal remains. The aim of the present study was to provide the population-specific sex discriminating osteometric standards to aid human identification. The present study was conducted on 87 (174 sides) slices of crania using postmorte...
متن کاملReduced Skull Sexual Dimorphism in a Local Sheep Breed
This study estimated the magnitude of sexual dimorphism in a relict sheep from Catalunya (NE Spain), called Fardasca, using geometric morphometric techniques. For these analyses, a total of 18 skull specimens (2 adult males and 16 females) were studied. Our results suggest that the breed is not cranially dimorphic, so sex determination using landmarks described here as criteria is likely to yiel...
